Fanfic Recommendation Challenge
Posting Access:
All Members , Moderated
Please read all rules and instructions before posting!

Basic Information:

Inspired by fanfic100, icons100, and the many other 100 communities on LiveJournal, we've created a recommendation community with the same challenge aspect. Fifty recs is the ultimate goal, but there are benchmarks at ten, twenty, thirty, forty and fifty recs. That way, if you've picked a small fandom, or a new fandom, or a rare pairing you can still play. We also know that many fandoms/pairings/characters don't lend themselves well to all the prompts (ie-It wouldn't be fair to ask someone reccing Lord Voldemort/Lucius Malfoy to pick a humorous story). The point is good fic recs in a multitude of fandoms, styles and pairings. It's not to post a story you don't really like in order make your fifty rec goal.

How To Play:

1. Join the community. You have to be a member to post.

2. Go here to make a claim. Similar to the other challenge communities, you can pick a fandom in general, a pairing or grouping of characters, or one specific character. It will be first come/first serve, but because there is an eight week time limit, those on the waitlist will get their chance eventually.

3. Read the FAQ before posting your recs.

4. Begin reccing, using the prompts in the grid below. You can copy and paste the grid to your LJ to keep track of your recs if you choose. Pick the prompts you're most interested in, or that lend themselves well to your favorite stories or your chosen fandom in general. Strive to reach one of the benchmarks (10, 20, 30, 40 or finally 50). Remember, you can only choose ONE "reccer's choice" for every TEN recommendations you post, so:

If you post ten recs, one can be a "reccer's choice."
If you post twenty recs, two can be a "reccer's choice."
If you post thirty recs, three can be a "reccer's choice."
If you post forty recs, four can be a "reccer's choice."
If you post fifty recs, five must be a "reccer's choice."

5. Post your recs in this community (one or two per post ONLY, for the sake of archiving), using the following structure:

The Titleline to each post must only read the name of the 1-2 fics you recced in that entry. So, if I recced a story called "My story" and a story called "Your story," the header would read "My Story, Your Story." Do not include fandom, prompt or author in the title. Abbreviate names as needed.

The actual body of the post should be formatted using this Header:

As for the length of the story, just guess. We'll say around 0-500 words is short, 500-2,000 words is medium, 2,000-10,000 is long and 10,000+ is epic. Use your best judgment. I'm only including this so people know what to expect when they click on the link.

Tag your posts with the pre-made tags. Learn more about that here.

6. And that's it! Make sure you link to the story at the end of each rec in your community post, so people can read it. On your table or compilation post, link directly to the recs you made here, as opposed to the stories themselves.

7. Your turn reccing ends after you've hit your desired benchmark and let us know here, or after the allotted two months.

For an example rec, go here. Please be aware that the excerpts she quoted from each story are under an LJ CUT. Excerpts are optional. You can also see how she linked the recs to her table. Thanks to chickpea for her contribution.

Table Of Claimed Fandoms/Pairings/Characters For Round II
Table Of Claimed Fandoms/Pairings/Characters For Round I

Navigation: There is a list of fandoms on the right side of the journal. Clicking any of these links will get you to the memories for all of the stories (in any pairing or character) recced in that particular fandom. This is a list of the visible tags for the community, so you can search a specific pairing, character, fandom or prompt. Every rec post has a link to the table available at the top of it so that you can see the list of recs that person has made. Happy hunting!
